Jolinna Sokkun Ang is a Singaporean cinematographer whose practice spans
narrative film, documentary and multidisciplinary visual storytelling. Driven by a
curiosity about people and the world around her, she approaches
cinematography as a way of exploring stories, cultures and perspectives beyond
her own. Her work is grounded in a sensitivity to human emotion and a belief in
the power of images to create connection.
Her practice moves between constructed narratives and the spontaneity of real
life. She made her feature debut as Director of Photography on Wilderness
(2022), shot in Sabah, Malaysia, followed by The Last Trial (2026), currently in
post-production. Her short film Love at 50 (2023) was selected for the
International Competition at the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film
Festival, while I'll Leave You Words (2025) earned her the ARRI Frame Within a
Frame Lens Award in 2025.
Documentary filmmaking has been equally formative to her artistic
development. Drawn to the authenticity of lived experiences and the quiet
moments that reveal something universal, her credits include the feature
documentary Brother Joseph McNally (2022) and Beyond These Walls (2024),
shortlisted for the Grierson Awards.
Jolinna's work has taken her across Southeast Asia and beyond, collaborating
with filmmakers and creatives from diverse backgrounds.
